World Publishing Expo in Frankfurt

After proving to be a major draw when it was first unveiled at drupa in Dusseldorf last May, the new FlexLiner newspaper inserting system from Muller Martini also attracted a large number of visitors at Muller Martini’s stand during the World Publishing Expo for the newspaper industry in Frankfurt. The numerous visitors were clearly impressed by Muller Martini’s power to innovate at a time that is far from easy for newspaper producers and system manufacturers.

The FlexLiner met with great interest among trade fair visitors at Muller Martini’s stand during the World Publishing Expo.

Muller Martini gave demonstrations both of the high performance and flexibility of the FlexLiner (the FlexLiner comes into its own particularly when used to process advertising magazines with a large number of inserts and many delivery zones), as well as the new feeder technology, which ensures high product quality. Muller Martini also showed how the FlexLiner offers new opportunities for product design and innovative insert marketing thanks to selective main section feeding and the adhesion of inserts as FlexAds to the front or back page of main jackets.

For Alfons Ahland, Managing Director of Alpa GmbH in the city of Geldern, Germany, one thing was certain during his visit to Muller Martini's stand: “If the market were more stable, I would purchase the FlexLiner immediately. I’m impressed by its high production speed and the clean bundles.” The FlexLiner was also the focal point for Eugene van Rensburg, General Manager of CTP Newspapers, located in Cape Town, South Africa. “Since I’ve made such a long journey and didn’t attend drupa, of course I’m particularly pleased that Muller Martini showed this machine at its stand. What I especially like about the FlexLiner are its compact design, its ability to process smaller sizes, and the small bundles.” Eugene van Rensburg sees the FlexLiner as a Muller Martini development that comes at the right time, just like the SigmaLine in the Digital Solutions segment. “Muller Martini meets market needs with its solutions.”

Increasing the Life Span of the Mailroom

In addition to the FlexLiner, Muller Martini also showed the advantages of its MMServices program at the World Publishing Expo. “The World Publishing Expo confirmed our experience in recent years that many customers have expressed growing interest in services, retrofits, updates and upgrades,” said Daniel Langenegger, Member of the Board of Directors of Muller Martini. “With our MMService Program we ensure that newspaper producers are able to increase the life span of their mailroom through manageable investments.”

“Because of newspaper deadlines, the high degree of availability of production systems is vital. Our machines have to be running at all times,” emphasized Jerk Hammelsvang, Production Director of Fynske Medier, located in Odense, Denmark. At the stand he signed a contract for the inspection of the company’s NewsLiner inserting system, which was installed five years ago. “It means that we will know exactly what measures we need to take afterwards.”

For Urs Binkert, Managing Director of Mittelland Zeitungsdruck AG in Aarau, Switzerland, there is also no question that the service and retrofit aspect will continue to gain importance: “This has potential for both sides. The system suppliers gauge how (new) business relations can be created, while we newspaper producers depend on immediate support in cases of stoppages and have a vested interest in having our systems operating for a long time.”
